Role SummaryThe Patient Care Technician
, working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, is primarily responsible for providing direct, non-invasive bedside care to patients. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
- Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc. Perform and document vital signs, measure and record intake, output, weight, specimen collections, etc. Transfer patients using proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques.
- Report any changes observed in patient condition or behavior to appropriate nursing personnel.
- Assist in preparing unit, patient rooms, and beds for incoming admissions. Maintain beds and rooms in a clean, neat, safe, and comfortable manner.
- Adhere to patient rounding expectations and standards.
- Assist in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to patient comfort and healing.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to patient and family calls and requests.
- Appropriately designate applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital's established system.
- MAY be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
- Provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff; assess environmental risks and implement precautions; comply with safety and Infection Prevention standards.
- Maintain regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Job Requirements
Minimum
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent strongly preferred.
- 2 years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
- Current BLS required.
- Knowledge of current clinical operations and procedures.
- Knowledge of appropriate Infection Prevention and proper body mechanics.
- General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.
- Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
- Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.
- A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods.
- Gross and precise motor functions.
- Lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
- Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation.
- Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use a computer keyboard.
- Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
