Position Introduction – Physical Education Teacher (Grades 7–12)
USD 365 is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our secondary team serving grades 7–12. This position plays an important role in helping students develop healthy habits, physical fitness, teamwork, and confidence through engaging and inclusive physical activity. The successful candidate will create a positive learning environment that encourages participation, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness.

Position Summary
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive physical education program for students in grades 7–12 that promotes physical fitness, health awareness, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits. The teacher creates a safe and engaging learning environment where students develop motor skills, physical competence, and an understanding of the value of physical activity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
- Teach a variety of physical activities including individual sports, team sports, fitness training, and lifetime wellness activities.
- Instruct students in proper techniques, safety procedures, and rules associated with physical activities.
- Incorporate lessons on health, fitness, nutrition, and lifelong wellness.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of diverse learners.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and positive character development.
- Encourage student participation and engagement in physical activity.
- Provide feedback and assessment to help students improve physical skills and fitness levels.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of grades and performance.
- Maintain a safe and organized gymnasium, fitness area, and activity spaces.
- Ensure proper use and care of equipment and facilities.
- Enforce safety rules and procedures to prevent injuries.
- Supervise students in locker rooms, gym areas, and outdoor activity spaces.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
- Assist with school-wide initiatives related to health and wellness.
- Assist with supervision of extracurricular activities or athletic programs as assigned.
- Support school events, assemblies, and activity supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching license with appropriate endorsement in Physical Education (Grades 7–12).
- Knowledge of physical education curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Ability to motivate and engage students in physical activity.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to demonstrate and participate in physical activities.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment.
- Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor environments for extended periods.
- School gymnasium, fitness rooms, athletic fields, and outdoor activity areas.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor instruction.
