Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 14,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12 th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Hearing & Vision Technicians are responsible for hearing/vision screening for all students receiving special education services within the District, re-screening all students that fail initial screenings in the District, and managing the reports/documentation needed for the State.
Responsibilities:- Under the supervision of the Supervisor of School Health Services, technicians will develop a screening schedule;
- Take care of testing equipment appropriately and be sure the equipment is stored and secured properly;
- Attend meetings and professional development, as directed by Diverse Learner Administration or Site Administration;
- Utilize required forms from the Illinois Department of Public Health;
- Implement testing and monitoring programs according to District request and the Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines;
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal interaction with students, staff, and families;
- Record test results on Hearing & Vision card and/or electronic system;
- Rescreen all students who failed initial screening as requested by school nurse;
- Provide School Nurse with results of all screenings for all buildings;
- Keep numerical summaries of each school/program in the District;
- Assist in the education of the community concerning Hearing/Vision conservation;
- Keep informed of improvements in the testing field by reading appropriate materials, attend state-sponsored programs, visit exemplary programs, participate in workshops, and attend mandatory recertification clinics every three (3) years to maintain certification;
- Prepare annual hearing and vision reports for Illinois Department of Public Health;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of School Health Services and/or the Director of Diverse Learners.
Salary Structure
Locations:Based out of Lincoln Center - but will travel to all schools within the District.
Qualifications:- Professional Educators License - ELS(PARA);
- Must already be certified as a Hearing/Vision Technician in the state of Illinois, or be willing to attend the certification training/classes required to obtain the certificate through the Illinois Department of Public Health. This certification must be maintained and renewed every three years as required by the Child Vision and Hearing Test Act.
Paraprofessional Educator Pre-Kindergarten through Age 21
Additional Information:Hours will be 7 hours per day, start/end times will be determined by schedule and may be varied based on daily testing needs. The days of work will follow the school calendar disseminated by the Board of Education.
