Paraeducators work closely with teachers to provide extra support to students.
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) para educator works with students whose behavior impacts their ability to learn to a significant degree. The goal of the PBS staff is to help the student learn behavioral control strategies that will allow them to participate with their peers as much as possible. The younger the student, the more they tend to outwardly display behaviors such as yelling/screaming, putting head down and not responding or even physical aggression.
Non‑violent crisis intervention training is provided to all staff supporting students in these classrooms. This training focuses on de‑escalation and emotion regulation.
- Pass a background check
- Have a current TB test
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Are strong team players
- Possess basic computer and math skills
- Must enjoy a fast‑pace environment
- Can spend 80% of their day standing and 20% walking or moving: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and using finger dexterity
- Maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality
