Our Grades 7–12 school is seeking a dynamic and creative educator to serve as a Theater Arts / English Language Arts Teacher. This unique position blends performance and literacy- offering the opportunity to inspire students both in the classroom and on the stage.

Job Description
Position Title: 7–12 Theater Arts / English Language Arts Teacher
Location: Anderson County Junior/Senior High School
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Contract: Certified Contract
Base Salary: $45-950 (per negotiated agreement; placement on salary schedule based on education and experience)

Position Purpose
The 7–12 Theater Arts / English Language Arts Teacher provides engaging- standards-based instruction in both performing arts and English language arts. This position fosters creativity- collaboration- literacy development- and critical thinking through performance- dramatic literature- writing- and analysis.
The teacher supports students’ artistic expression while strengthening reading- writing- speaking- and listening skills essential for academic and post-secondary success.
Essential Functions
Theater Arts Instruction
- Develop and deliver standards-aligned instruction in theater arts for grades 7–12.
- Teach acting techniques- stage movement- voice- improvisation- and performance skills.
- Introduce students to dramatic literature- theater history- and production elements.
- Provide instruction in technical theater (e.g.
- stagecraft- lighting- sound- set design) as appropriate. - Direct or co-direct school theatrical productions and performances.
- Manage rehearsal schedules and coordinate performances with administration and staff.
- Promote student participation in performances and related activities.
English Language Arts Instruction
- Develop and deliver standards-aligned ELA instruction in assigned grade levels.
- Teach reading comprehension- literary analysis- writing composition- grammar- and vocabulary.
- Incorporate dramatic literature and performance-based learning strategies when appropriate.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs- including accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
- Assess student learning using formative and summative measures.
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records.
- Establish a safe- respectful- and inclusive learning environment.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of theater spaces- costumes- and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of materials and submit purchase requests as needed.
Student Support & Engagement
- Encourage student creativity- collaboration- and confidence.
- Support extracurricular theater activities and related student organizations.
- Provide constructive feedback to promote academic and artistic growth.
- Collaborate with counselors and staff to support student success.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional learning communities and district professional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and performances.
- Maintain Kansas licensure and comply with district policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Kansas Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in English Language Arts (6–12 or 7–12).
