Job Description

Our Grades 7–12 school is seeking a passionate- student-centered Art Teacher to inspire creativity- critical thinking- and artistic expression in our learners. We are looking for an educator who believes the arts play a vital role in developing confident- capable- and well-rounded students.

Position Title: 7–12 Art Teacher
Location: Anderson County Junior/Senior High School
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Contract: Certified Contract
Base Salary: $45-950 (per negotiated agreement; placement on salary schedule based on education and experience)

Position Purpose

The Grades 7–12 Art Teacher provides engaging- standards-based visual arts instruction to middle and high school students. The teacher fosters creativity- critical thinking- craftsmanship- and artistic expression while supporting student growth in technical skills- art history- aesthetics- and contemporary applications of visual media. The position supports district goals for student achievement- school culture- and post-secondary readiness.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and deliver standards-aligned lessons in visual arts for grades 7–12.
  • Teach a variety of media and techniques (e.g.

    - drawing- painting- sculpture- ceramics- digital art- mixed media).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and IEP/504 accommodations.
  • Integrate art history- cultural relevance- and contemporary issues into instruction.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of grades and student progress.
  • Establish and maintain a safe- organized- and inclusive studio environment.
  • Teach and enforce proper use and care of art materials and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of art supplies and submit purchase requests as needed.
  • Display student work throughout the building and community when appropriate.
Student Support & Engagement
  • Encourage creative risk-taking and artistic growth.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Support extracurricular activities such as art club- exhibitions- and student showcases.
  • Collaborate with counselors and staff to support student academic and social-emotional development.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional learning communities and district professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  • Maintain Kansas licensure and meet all professional standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Kansas Teaching License with appropriate endorsement (Visual Arts K–12).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development (grades 7–12).
  • Ability to manage a classroom studio environment safely and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching both middle and high school levels.
  • Experience with digital art tools and technology integration.
  • Experience organizing student art shows or community exhibitions.
  • Background in ceramics or 3D media preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move art materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate artistic techniques.

USD 365 is located in Anderson County KS (pop. 8,208), serving the communities of Garnett (3,388), Greeley (333), and Westphalia (166). District schools are: 7-12 Anderson County Jr./Sr. High School in Garnett (enr. 420);

K-12 Garnett Elementary School (400); K-6 Greeley Elementary (57);
Westphalia Elementary (52). All district schools are fully accredited and perform at a high academic level. ACHS offers a full array of vocational programs including the opportunity to take college level courses in CNA, Welding, HVAC, and Automotive through a local technical college and community college. Anderson County High School offers 11 varsity sports and a host of fine arts and academic activities.
