Position Title: Special Education Teacher
Overview
Special education teachers will assess students' skills to determine their needs and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. They plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities.
Reports to: Building Principal
Qualifications
- Education/
Experience:
Education Degree - Good communication skills, language skills, mathematical skills, and reasoning ability
- Certificate/License:
Special Education Degree / Alternative Licensure welcomed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General Responsibilities
- Teach students in small groups and one-on-one.
- Implement IEPs, assess student performance, and track progress.
- Update IEPs to reflect progress and goals.
- Discuss student progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals who work with students with disabilities.
- Help students transition between grades and after graduation.
- Adapt general education lessons and teach subjects such as reading, writing, and math to students with mild to moderate disabilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to move, lift, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Ability to stoop, bend, and reach.
- Ability to work in semi-noisy and crowded environments.
- Attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple activities.
- Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
Benefits Information
- Board contributes $480 to single payer or higher policy monthly.
Salary Information
- Competitive Salary; salary range listed as $45,100 - $79,400. Ask about tuition reimbursement and alternative licensure welcomed.
