BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSEThe Gifted Education teacher is responsible for planning, implementation, evaluation and support of a comprehensive gifted service delivery model. The Gifted Education teacher collaborates with other members of the staff and administration to appropriately monitor student progress, make informed, timely educational decisions regarding eligibility, and student progress/growth.

Professional responsibilitiesCommunication with parents and colleaguesFollow contractual responsibilitiesEngage in reflective practiceMaintain accurate recordsCommunicate with familiesEngage in professional development activitiesCollaborate with others to achieve a common goalPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESSubmit required reports in a timely manner, participate in staff, department, committee and team meetings, assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Principals and/or Director of Special Education.Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support extended learning.Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and support agencies.Understand the issues in definitions, theories, and identification of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds.Recognize the learning differences, developmental milestones, and cognitive/affective characteristics of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds, and identify their related academic and social-emotional needs.Understand, plan, and implement a range of evidence-based strategies to assess gifted and talented students, to differentiate instruction, content, and assignments for them (including the use of higher-order critical and creative-thinking skills).Plan and implement transition services for students.Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, annual review, and re-evaluation process.Attend/assist with school events; organize/supervise field trips.Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.Uphold and enforce Board policies, administrative procedures, school rules, and federal and state regulations including but not limited toKansas Plan for Special EducationConsolidated Plan for Federal ProgramsAcceptable use of technologySexual and racial harassmentChild abuse reportingPerform other duties assigned by the principal or other building or district administrators.#J-18808-Ljbffr
