Location: Onsite at customer location in Kansas City, MO
Schedule: 1st shift starting at 0700 CST with a flex shift schedule. There may be times when a switch to nights would be necessary as needed.
Salary: $65,000 starting
Important requirements to note: Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. Must become forklift and electric pallet jack certified (company will certify). Must wear PPE (steel toe boots and hi-vis vest, company provided)
Job Summary:
The Dedicated Account Leader position is a hybrid role consisting of three main responsibilities: fleet management of assigned Drivers, load planning, and customer service of assigned account(s). Dedicated Account Leaders manage key metrics of the business such as driver performance & retention, safety & compliance, and driver pay. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, Occupational Safety and Health Agency, etc.)
and company policies to meet regulatory and internal audit compliance requirements. Essential Functions:
- Fleet Management
- Lead, develop, and retain a team of drivers.
- Present appropriate work assignments for drivers
- Manage performance, identify/manage training needs, provide ongoing feedback & review driver scorecard/key metrics with assigned Drivers (i.e. on-time performance, idle %, working %).
- Ensure accurate & complete documentation of driver data, activity & discussions.
- Support driver administrative needs, including payroll.
- Deliver disciplinary action, up to and including termination, when appropriate.
- Ensure drivers are properly presented in the Operations system and are set up with equipment (i.e. trailers).
- Manage the maintenance calendar, shutdown queue, and other regulatory events.
- Accurately communicate customer expectations, monitor appointment dates and driver's PTA's to make sure customer needs are met, providing verbal dispatch for required JIT/time sensitive customers.
- Review requirements with the driver when assigned Hazmat, high value, and high maintenance type loads (verbal dispatch as required).
- Ensure the driver understands procedures and protocols related to claims, accidents, theft, and equipment.
- Maintain awareness of driver's physical & emotional state and assess how it affects safety, service, and productivity.
- Communicates safety and compliance goals and programs to ensure associates understand and comply with safety and compliance requirements.
- Load Planning
- Create and execute plans in accordance with customer expectations, driver needs, and system balance expectations while maximizing the utilization of company assets.
- Accurately communicate with the customer and Driver when there's a challenge to meet their requirements/needs/expectations.
- Manage and ensure drivers are routed through safe havens as appropriate when planning High Value loads.
- Generate reports and analyze data to maximize equipment usage (i.e. dedicated contract carriage (DCC) load weight, miles driven, and back haul (i.e., return trip) revenue)
- Review DOT regulations (e.g., driving limits, etc.) to remain in compliance with requirements, as well as compile driver availability logs to monitor hours and gauge remaining drive time.
- Customer Service
- Build effective business relationships with assigned account(s).
- Anticipate and facilitate problem resolution with any shipments at risk of meeting service requirements.
- Understand operational network in an effort to work with customers to enhance existing business and increase load volume.
- Utilize network balance and pricing tools to perform daily solicitation to existing accounts to offset capacity imbalances.
- May negotiate TL and Intermodal rates with outside carriers and evaluate/select carriers, methods of transport, and routes to provide cost-effective transportation and maintain high levels of service.
- Monitor DCC and transactional load weight operations and manage service issues, proof of delivery, rate issues, and special requirements.
- Gather and manage input of delivery data from trip reports to create, analyze, and interpret customer reports. Prepare key performance indicators to present to customers at periodic reviews.
This position may supervise non-driving associates
Performs other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree in Transportation & Logistics preferred.
- 1-2 years' experience as an Account Manager or Customer Service Manager preferred.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with customers, stakeholders, and team members.
- Strong, demonstrated leadership capabilities, includes building effective teams.
- Ability to resolve issues without follow up.
