Love the water and enjoy helping others? As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you’ll teach swimming skills that build confidence, water safety, and fun. Whether someone is nervous, learning their first strokes, or refining technique, your guidance can transform their relationship with water.

Note: No certification? No problem! We provide free training and certification to get you ready to succeed.

• Teach swim lessons to participants at appropriate age levels, per national guidelines of course levels and ratios.
• Plan lessons for classes and be well prepared for lessons.
• Set up and tear down of lessons (includes all utilized equipment).
• Take attendance at all classes.
• Update all areas and certifications through the YMCA training certification program as needed for the position.
• Assist in the cleanliness of the pool and report any maintenance needs.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification. If not certified, free training and certification is provided.
• Must pass skills test that includes
• Tread water for two minutes.
• Demonstrate Stage 5 proficiency in at least four of the following six strokes by swimming 25 yards of each:
  Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.
• Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.

• Must be willing to participate in required certifications and training.
