Position: Commercial Solar Business Development Manager (Top Closer)

We’re looking for an elite Commercial Solar Business Development Manager — a true closer — to drive high-value project conversions across the Midwest and beyond. You should be a confident dealmaker, deeply curious about your client’s business, financially fluent, relentlessly driven, and obsessed with winning. As part of our Sales Team, you will lead new customer acquisition through structured pipeline development, aggressive pursuit of qualified opportunities, and confident negotiation of commercial solar project agreements. You’ll be responsible for taking a prospect from interest to inked contract — working closely with Engineering, Development, and the installation team to craft strategic proposals and close deals that matter.

You will be at the tip of the spear for Brightergy’s commercial solar and energy storage growth.

  • Consistently close high-quality, margin-aligned commercial solar and solar+storage projects across defined territories
  • Originate and mature opportunities by building and managing a robust pipeline in Salesforce
  • Own the deal process from lead qualification through proposal, contract negotiation, and close
  • Conduct strategic market research and territory planning with your Inside Sales and Engineering partners
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop creative, tailored solutions for client-specific energy and financial goals
  • Meet or exceed quarterly/annual MW and revenue targets
  • Represent Brightergy at in-person client meetings, site visits, and industry events
  • Prospect, qualify, and convert C-level, VP, and Director-level decision-makers at commercial/industrial businesses, schools, and municipal organizations
  • Negotiate site control agreements, solar PPAs, capital purchase contracts, and BESS integrations
  • Structure proposals with clear ROI, IRR, and payback positioning; confidently explain financial and technical details to non-technical audiences
  • Maintain precise CRM hygiene and provide transparent deal forecasting and reporting
  • Stay sharp on solar and energy market trends, utility tariffs, interconnection policies, and competitive offerings
  • Collaborate daily with Inside Sales (MDS) counterparts to generate high-conversion opportunities
  • A closer — not a talker, not a thinker, not a planner. A finisher.
  • Laser-focused on results and addicted to the rush of winning
  • Polished and credible with executives, able to both command a room and listen intelligently
  • Obsessed with improvement everyday— personally and professionally

Must-Haves:

  • 3–5+ years of business development or outside sales experience in commercial solar or energy solutions
  • Deep financial fluency in PPA structures, Cap Ex modeling, and commercial energy ROI metrics (NPV, IRR, etc.)
  • Salesforce or CRM platform mastery
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% for client meetings and site visits

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with BESS (battery energy storage)
  • Existing network of real estate portfolio owners, REITs, or mid-market business decision makers
  • Familiarity with utility RFP/RFI processes and state/local solar incentives
  • Background in structured project finance or energy SaaS sales
  • A top-tier pipeline and product, ready for aggressive conversion
