ICU Staff Nurse – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – Full Time Night Shift

Shift: Night shift (7 pm – 7 am)
OverviewChildren’s Mercy is a Level IV NICU, the highest designation available in the United States. Every day we care for more than 80 fragile newborns who are very small, very sick, or need surgery, supported by the region’s best specialists and the full range of more than 400 newborn medicine specialists, highly‑trained pediatric nurses, anesthesiologists, and specialized equipment. We are the only hospital between St. Louis
and Denver that can provide this level of care.
Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses (ICU RNs) provide advanced illness management and health promotion for patients who require critical care. ICU RNs use the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to deliver safe, high‑quality, comprehensive, family‑centered, age‑appropriate care; continuously monitor critically ill patients and respond to changes in clinical status; educate patients and families; advocate for complex needs; and coordinate patient care with a multidisciplinary team.
As an ICU Staff Nurse in our NICU, you will help our patients reach their potential and support their families with intentional, compassionate care. You will also be part of our ECMO team, providing a second chance to the most vulnerable children.
Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high‑quality, comprehensive, and age‑appropriate plan of care for the critically ill patient and family to promote optimal outcomes.
- Meet the educational and informational needs of the critically ill patient and family, and advocate for their needs.
- Maintain an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family‑centered.
- Use current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality for critically ill patients.
- Two years of Level III NICU or 1 year of Level IV NICU experience preferred
- Associate’s Degree required.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Licensed RN – MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire.
- Licensed RN – KS, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire.
- RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO.
- Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications required upon hire.
- Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) preferred.
