Overview

The Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VA-RN) provides services to inpatients and outpatients who require specialized assistance for placement and/or maintenance of vascular access devices. Based on individualized assessment of vascular access needs, the VA-RN selects the appropriate device and insertion site. The VA-RN serves as a resource for patients, families, and staff for maintenance of vascular access devices; in order to decrease risk of complications, including blood stream infections.

The VA-RN identifies and meets the educational needs of patients, families, and staff.

If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Responsibilities
  • Provides vascular access services to inpatients and outpatients who require specialized services for insertion and maintenance of vascular access devices.
  • Serves as a resource for patients, families, and staff for maintenance of vascular access devices, decreasing risk of complications, including blood stream infections
  • Identifies and meets the educational needs of patients, families, and staff.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree ADN Required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. and 2-3 years of experience as an RN (preferably in a hospital or nursing home setting). Insertion of PICC/midline vascular access devices;
    Use of ultrasound guidance; CVC management; CLABSI prevention; basic data collection preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. and 2-3 years of experience as an RN (preferably in a hospital or nursing home setting). Insertion of PICC/midline vascular access devices;
    Use of ultrasound guidance; CVC management; CLABSI prevention; basic data collection preferred.
  • One of the following:
    Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • One of the following:
    Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
