Summary:
In this dynamic position, you will help manage the Youth Volunteer Corps program in Greater Kansas City to deliver the highest-quality program possible. You will co-lead program planning, youth recruitment, marketing efforts, and youth leadership efforts. You’ll be charged with growing the program by building school partnerships and finding creative ways to recruit and retain youth while managing funder requirements. For the summer program, you will hire and lead 8-10 part-time temporary staff.
Employee Status: This position is a salaried, exempt position
Hours: This position is full-time (40 hours per week), with a flexible schedule. That may include working in schools, at the office, remote, and at various nonprofit agencies in Kansas City. Service project supervision may require working 1-2 Saturdays a month (typically ~3-4 hours each). Time can then be flexed during the week to accommodate time worked on a Saturday.
Responsibilities- Plan and supervise meaningful service projects at a variety of nonprofits. Projects are scheduled by you and the other director based on agency needs and your schedule.
- Recruit new and diverse youth ages 11-18 to participate in Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) programming, with a major focus on growing the program.
- Build and maintain relationships with youth volunteers, parents and guardians, and community partners. Prioritize accurate, timely, and consistent communication; provide oversight to program communication including phone, email, and other channels of communication.
- Have an innovative vision for program direction and expansion, focusing on progress toward annual program goals.
- Maintain up-to-date program records, policies, and procedures including project activities and youth volunteer performance in YVC’s customized database (training provided).
- Manage funder requirements including the promotion of Volunteer for 15, an initiative with Patrick Mahomes’ Foundation.
- Participate in YVC network activities such as the annual Summit conference.
- Act as a role model and advocate for youth volunteers.
- School-based programming:
Develop current and new school partnerships for school programming and year-round recruitment. - Train school staff to deliver in-school programming; provide oversight, monitor progress, and ensure accurate data collection.
- Work with YVCHQ team and the other Program Director to develop curriculum, training, evaluation, and support materials for school programming.
- Supervision:
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise temporary part-time summer staff leaders (8-10), leading weekly meetings during the summer. - Program Marketing:
Lead YVC KC marketing initiatives including social media management, website, email marketing, and conducting media outreach to promote events and request coverage for high-profile projects. - Advisory Boards:
Ensure youth voice and community input through managing YVC’s Youth Advisory Board and Parent Advisory Board.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
- Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien
- Pass all background checks and adhere to YVC’s Youth Protection Policy
- Availability for required schedule commitments:
Supervising scheduled projects throughout the program year, including some Saturdays (typically 4-6 Saturday hours per month) - Annual conference (Nov 6-8 in KC this year)
- Experience working with and good rapport among youth ages 11 to 18
- Proficient with computer knowledge and Microsoft Office products, technology and data management skills
- Have reliable transportation to accommodate a work schedule that varies in schedule and location
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including parents and guardians, agency partners, school contacts, youth including underserved youth, media, and more
- A strong personal ethic of service; familiarity with community’s unmet needs and the agencies working to address them is helpful
- Good judgement, strategic thinking, creativity, and resilience
- Stellar organizational and time management skills
