Injection Mold Downstream Technician 35+/HR Job Description

The Downstream Technician is responsible for all post-molding operations following the injection molding process. This role ensures that plastic components are cooled, inspected, trimmed, packaged, and prepared according to food-grade manufacturing standards. The technician works closely with machine operators to maintain production efficiency, quality, and safety in a clean, regulated environment.

Responsibilities
  • Handle molded plastic parts as they exit the injection molding machines.
  • Perform visual quality checks to ensure parts meet all specifications and food-grade standards.
  • Operate downstream equipment such as conveyors, cooling stations, trimmers, cutters, stackers, and automated packaging systems.
  • Assist machine operators with startups, shutdowns, mold changeovers, and downstream setup adjustments.
  • Package finished parts according to customer and facility requirements.
  • Label products accurately and maintain records for traceability.
  • Track production output and communicate any variances in count or quality.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation rules, and food-safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and downstream workstations to prevent contamination.
  • Complete required documentation for quality and compliance audits.
  • Adhere to all facility safety guidelines and proper PPE usage.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or mechanical issues to supervisors immediately.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Communicate equipment or product concerns promptly and clearly.
  • Help train new team members in downstream tasks and safety procedures when needed.
Essential Skills
  • Previous experience in plastic manufacturing, injection molding, or downstream operations preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, bending, and reaching.
  • Strong attention to detail and understanding of quality standards.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Understanding of downstream equipment such as de-gating tools, cooling systems, trimming stations, and packaging machines.

Work Environment

The work environment is a fast-paced, clean, plastic production facility. Expect exposure to warm temperatures near molding equipment and cooler areas near downstream cooling stations. The position involves 12-hour shifts, with potential for overtime or weekend work

This is a Permanent position based out of Kansas City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $83200.00/yr.
