The U.S. Benefits Specialist supports the administration and ongoing management of U.S. employee benefit programs across both unionized and non‑unionized environments. Reporting to the U.S. Benefits Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the accurate administration of benefit plans, maintaining high standards of data quality, supporting annual enrollment activities, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the overall employee experience.
POSITIONACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure all U.S. benefit plans are administered in accordance with plan documents, vendor contracts, and applicable collective agreements
- Support the development and implementation of benefit plan amendments and updates to plan documentation
- Serve as a subject matter expert, overseeing benefits technology design, system updates, data uploads, new functionality implementation, and resolution of data integration errors
- Lead the completion of regular annual compliance activities
- Support end-to-end annual benefit plan design renewals and annual enrollment activities, including system testing, auditing, and employee support; complete required benefits documentation (e.g., Medicare forms and National Medical Support Orders (NMSOs))
- Serve as a subject matter expert for complex benefit-related inquiries, escalations, and grievances; partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve issues
- Assist the U.S. Benefits Manager with strategic initiatives by assessing the impact of plan design changes, system enhancements, and compliance requirements
- Provide excellent customer service and employee support by responding to and resolving inquiries received through the shared Benefits inbox
- Provide and implement recommendations for efficiencies, focusing on the continuous improvement of all administrative processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in HR or U.S. benefits administration
- Benefits related certifications in Group Benefits Associate (GBA), Registered Pension Administrator (RPA) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) is an added advantage.
