Job Location: Lakewood Counseling Service, UH Behavioral Health, Kansas City, Missouri

Department: Patient Access Behavioral Health UHTMC

Position Type: Full-time

Work Schedule: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)

Seniority level: Entry level

• Interview patients and other sources to obtain demographic and financial data for access to hospital clinical and financial systems.
• Communicate health benefit regulations and patient financial obligations to the relevant parties.
• Receive written and telephonic requests to schedule patient appointments via the electronic scheduling system.
• Gather and record financial and insurance information; coordinate and make referrals to appropriate financial resources.
• Validate financial and insurance information; obtain pre‑certification and authorization for services; collect co‑pays; complete all admission/registration paperwork.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in clerical, patient contact, hospital business office or insurance.
• Communication skills to interview patients and families and to exchange information with hospital staff, physicians, third‑party payors and resource persons.
• Minimum one year’s experience as a Patient Access & Scheduling Representative.
• Concise written communication skills and keyboarding skills.

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative with the organization or at another organization.
