The Controller will play a key role in advancing Alt Cap’s mission of increasing our small business and microloan deployment in traditionally underserved communities and marginalized entrepreneurs. Serving as a critical member of the finance leadership team, this role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, ensures the integrity of financial data, and manages complex CDFI-specific reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger management.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Manage complex accounting for loan funds and restricted grants.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process with external auditors and oversee the preparation of Form 990.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, CDFI Fund requirements, and federal grant regulations (Uniform Guidance).
- Prepare financial reports for the Board of Directors, investors, and regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and manage liquidity and cash flow forecasting to support lending activities.
- Maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
- Partner with the VP of Finance to develop and monitor the annual operating budget.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and implement scalable financial software solutions.
- Support the lending team by providing data on loan portfolio performance and loss reserves.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role.
- Sector Knowledge: Experience in non-profit accounting (fund accounting) or banking/lending is highly desirable.

Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with mid-market accounting software (e.g., QBO, Sage Intacct, Net Suite). - Commitment to Alt Cap's mission of promoting economic opportunities for underserved communities.
