Sr. Manager, Plant Controllers

The Sr. Manager, Plant Controllers is an active resource in keeping the Plant Controllers and other staff apprised of deviations, analyzing performance, and bringing best practices to the plant. The role implements financial control procedures, systems, and standards, advising on ways to improve financial performance through benchmarking, historical analysis, and recommendation quantification. This position reports to the Director of Finance – Manufacturing and requires 30% travel.

Responsibilities
  • Manage Plant Controllers in evaluating performance and actions necessary to improve results.
  • Train finance department employees, plan, assign, and direct their work activities.
  • Oversee all financial functions within manufacturing and distribution facilities, including payroll, AP, purchasing, receiving, production, shipping, and inventory control; validate accuracy of all P&L and balance‑sheet accounts.
  • Ensure strict compliance to financial corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective internal controls and develop/document up‑to‑date financial procedures and monitoring measures to ensure compliance.
  • Safeguard company assets via routine cycle‑count program, periodic physical inventory, and fixed‑asset controls.
  • Maintain control of and report results of monthly cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
  • Monitor fixed assets, coordinate annual fixed‑asset inventories, prepare expenditure requests (CERs), quantify acceptable levels of investment and financial returns.
  • Monitor capital project spending and close capital projects on a timely basis; maintain integrity of the location’s fixed‑asset ledger.
  • Maintain local compliance with Sarbanes–Oxley Act requirements.
  • Provide sound financial advice and counsel in all aspects of the business.
  • Work with all levels of plant and divisional personnel on budgeting, cost‑reduction recommendations, and comparison of actual results to plan.
  • Lead/coordinate the manufacturing and distribution annual financial planning process, establishing initiatives to meet company’s financial objectives.
  • Provide accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts of operating expenses and capex to enable proper allocation of resources.
  • Prepare and validate weekly forecast of current month’s performance and provide monthly financial operating results, including variance explanations.
  • Monitor all spending and report monthly, quarterly, and annual results to management.
  • Control discretionary spending using checkbook approach to proactively monitor expenses and hit targets.
  • Analyze operating results including manufacturing cost, productivity, and scrap rates.
  • Assist Plant Manager in evaluating performance and actions necessary to improve results.
  • Direct and control production and scrap reporting, material movement including receiving and inter‑plant shipping.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field (MBA or CPA a plus).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of financial or accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with the financials of multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet application software.
  • Experience with JDE MRP System and Hyperion Financial Reporting a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, V‑lookup, graphing, bridge analysis, waterfall charts).
  • Ability to compose reports, procedures, policies, and general business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information at any level of employee.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Very strong analytical experience, normalizing and summarizing large amounts of data.
