Description
The primary mission for the EPC Technical Manager will be to foster a culture where quality and technical excellence is valued, recognized, and rewarded for the importance it brings to our organization. They will establish consistency and direction in our EPC quality and execution planning through leadership and direction with project teams as well as oversight of the EPC Project Engineers.
They will position Burns & McDonnell as a technical leader through establishing EPC delivery market trends, fostering T&D collaboration, and identifying opportunities to improve the EPC business.
Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned by GP management:
People Leadership & Talent DevelopmentCollaborate in the development of current EPC technical leadership.
Identify and develop future EPC technical leadership.
Work with Human Resources and staff to identify, prepare, communicate, and monitor performance plans for employees with areas of needed improvement.
Foster and grow a mentorship and coaching platform for the EPC technical careers
Manage internal technical training for the department, collaborating with resource management to maintain training consistency, effectiveness, and vision.
Identify and assign appropriate development and maintenance of technical resources (specifications, design tools, technology, etc.).
Foster a thought leadership mentality at all levels and positions across the department.
Facilitate EPC Onboarding Training with new-to-EPC project teams
Facilitate the EPC Project Engineer/Designer Cohort, including managing the annual application process, determining topics, finding discussion facilitators and developing a discussion framework. The program is updated annually based on cohort feedback.
Facilitate the EPC Technical Execution Training (TET) series, including determining topics, finding presenters and developing content.
Advocate for and advertise field engineer opportunities on EPC projects.
Manage the implementation of innovation in engineering processes, focused on efficiency, tools, and technology.
Cultivate, facilitate, and guide technical execution best practices and documentation for EPC projects.
Collaborate with project teams to support the development of project execution plans.
Facilitate identification of goals, objectives, and deliverables within an established consistent framework from team to team.
Drive a culture of quality and continual improvement.
Visit project sites and gather feedback from subcontractors or the field operations team, as requested.
Manage the application of design-related quality reviews to the practices of the business line.
Facilitate the EPC non-conformance and corrective action process.
Identify and develop corrective actions associated with non-conformance trends on EPC projects.
Facilitate knowledge capture/project closeout meetings for EPC projects. Facilitate sharing knowledge between project teams.
Coordinate with the quality manager, supplier quality, and construction quality to provide internal audit support and continuous improvement efforts.
Assess the effectiveness of corrective actions and develop alternatives, as necessary.
Set direction by developing annual goals for improving EPC engineering execution.
Initiate coordination with appropriate business line leadership and EPC leadership to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the technical business.
Recommend changes in the basic structure and organization of the department to meet growth strategies and long-term objectives.
Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Maintain the tools & templates library. Developing new tools and modifying existing as requested by the project teams.
Support specification coordinators.
Identify and communicate market trends in the business line.
Strategically maintain and communicate relevant opportunities for industry involvement, including societies and conference attendance.
Collaborate with technical staff to drive industry focus and strategically plan involvement to achieve annual technical business goals.
Regularly meet with Department Managers, Project Directors, and Project Managers to coordinate EPC technical needs, performance, and utilization of staff.
Support regional office development and technical resource coordination.
Support sales and marketing efforts for EPC-specific projects, including proposals, scopes of work, quality plans and quality requirements.
Bachelor s Degree in a related field and 7 years of related professional experience Required
Demonstrated technical ability internally and externally
Proven leadership in developing and implementing a vision that has brought a positive impact.
