OverviewMartin/Martin, Inc. is looking for a mid‑level structural engineer to join our Investigative Engineering Group in our Kansas City, MO office. Typical projects include engineering support for building renovations/repairs, concrete repair, fall protection systems, façade access systems, building envelope systems, expert witness work, and non‑destructive testing.
This position will focus on providing engineering services for renovation, restoration, retrofit, and repair projects for existing structures. Work will include meeting with clients, developing reports, and producing engineering deliverables as defined by the particular project needs. Strong knowledge of building codes, construction standards and the ability to formulate appropriate conclusions to the conditions encountered during investigation are required skills.
The successful candidate will be required to manage and oversee field investigations, recommend testing programs, develop reports and repair documents, and perform construction administration services. Projects will necessitate a balance between in‑office design time and on‑site evaluation time. Projects may be regional or national, offering some travel opportunity. The position will require interactions with clients, building owners and contractors, and includes marketing activities.

Responsibilities- Coordinate and perform investigations with in‑house staff and clients
- Engage with clients and contractors as the primary point of contact throughout the project life cycle
- Manage and collaborate with engineering and technician staff to produce high‑quality project documentation using computer design and graphics software programs
- Develop, monitor, and manage project work plans, schedules, and design budgets
- Build lasting relationships with clients through project work and business development activities
- Develop design recommendations for projects
- Assemble construction drawings, write and edit specifications, and follow project‑specific QA/QC plans
- Move inside or outside the office and on non‑ADA accessible construction sites
- Remain stationary for long periods of time
- Repetitive movement on tasks such as using a keyboard or mouse
- Carry, ascend, and descend a ladder
- Identify color
- Read, communicate, and document in English
- Determine and exchange accurate information
- Occasionally move or hold equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Investigative:
Position themselves in atypical environments and small, confined spaces
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Completed 4 years progressive engineering experience
- Exhibits effective communication and technical skills
- Instills confidence in supervisors and clients through effective communication and technical skills
- Ability to design, detail, coordinate, and model small to medium size projects within time and budget constraints
- Followed multiple engineering projects from start of design to completion of construction
- Demonstrates time management skills needed to plan and execute projects
- Demonstrates strong commitment to continued professional development
- Participating member of professional and/or technical societies
- Has a PE license in the state of their home office
- Structural & Investigative:
Passed the 16‑hour structural engineering exam
