Data Center Substation Physical Designer

Join our team as a Data Center Substation Physical Designer at HDR.

HDR Engineering is seeking a Data Center Substation Physical Designer to join our Power Delivery team, focusing on data center projects. This role involves drawing upon your technical expertise in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and your experience in high voltage substation design to support mission-critical data center infrastructure.

You will be responsible for performing independent design tasks, developing drawings and documents, and preparing material lists for simple to moderately complex projects. The role offers growth opportunities and may be classified as Designer I, II, or Senior based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform design tasks, develop drawings, and prepare material lists for substation projects
  • Create physical design drawings, including General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding & Conduit Plans, and Foundation Plans
  • Perform basic calculations and support engineering reports for electrical substations
  • Understand and apply client standards to projects, exercising judgment in design decisions
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and clients
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or technical training, with relevant experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in substation CADD layout and design
  • Experience with protection and control systems in high voltage substations
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NESC, IEEE, NEC
  • Understanding of physical substation components and construction drawings
Qualifications:
  • Technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years related industry experience
  • Proficiency in 3D design software and document management
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills
