Title: Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
Salary: $140,000 - $170,000 + Bonus

Summary: We are currently looking for a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to work with a leading US turnkey energy solutions company specializing in innovative service and equipment solutions for the energy industry worldwide. We have designed, built, and deployed numerous projects working collaboratively with EPCs. Due to exponential growth and an ever‑increasing pipeline of orders, we have decided to build our own integrated EPC team.
As the Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will have the expertise to execute project work and have a heavy influence in writing and maintaining standards, guidelines, and procedures. In addition, you will collaborate closely with our integrated EPC team and clients to deliver high‑quality, world‑class solutions for our construction team.
Responsibilities:
- Own and develop I&C technical deliverables, including standardization of engineering templates, guidelines, and processes.
- Provide technical direction and leadership to engineers and designers, ensuring high‑quality execution of I&C scope.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget for I&C disciplines across assigned projects, including change management.
- Perform and review complex design tasks such as control logic, network architecture, I/O lists, control narratives, and cabinet layouts.
- Lead the review and coordination of vendor documentation to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
- Work closely with integrated EPC teams and clients to support RFIs, technical reviews, procurement activities, and project milestones.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Electrical or I&C disciplines (nice to have).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in power generation, fossil fuels, or industrial energy sectors.
- 2+ years of experience in a lead engineering or engineering project management capacity within an EPC environment.
- Proficiency in developing I&C and electrical documentation, and programming logic.
- Familiarity with Allen Bradley Control Logix hardware and software (Flex I/O, Studio 5000).
- Strong understanding of control systems, communication networks, and balance‑of‑plant operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to change, and lead in dynamic environments.
- Experience with HMI systems (Factory Talk View, Plant
PAX) and virtual environments (VMware vSphere). - Familiarity with construction practices, proposal processes, estimating, procurement, and contract administration.
- Knowledge of document control systems and financial/business acumen.
- Background in owner or client‑side engineering roles.
- Active participation in professional societies and industry organizations.
