Our client is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to support the design of high-voltage electrical substations and renewable energy interconnection projects. This role is responsible for producing civil and structural designs, applying applicable codes and standards (NESC, ASCE, etc.), and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering packages. The position involves designing steel structures, concrete foundations, bus support systems, oil containment systems, metal platforms, and fire walls.
Additional responsibilities include supporting site layouts, conduit and grounding plans, stormwater management reviews, and permitting documentation.
- Steel structure design and fabrication drawings
- Concrete foundation design and detail drawings
- Fire wall design
- Structural analysis and documented design calculations
- Foundation layout plans
- Bills of materials
- Design for high voltage (4kV–230kV) and EHV (230kV+) substation projects
- Cable trough and conduit plans and details
- Grounding plans and details
- Site plan development and review
- Erosion and sediment control review
- Stormwater management review
- Construction documentation, sequencing, and RFP development
- Technical support for bus fault stress analysis, procurement, and construction
- Work with physical designers and multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Coordinate with substation, transmission, distribution, geotechnical, and survey teams
- Support stakeholder communication and alignment with project milestones
- Participate in client technical review meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in high-voltage substation civil design
- Active PE license in at least one U.S. state
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Bentley Micro Station
- Experience with 3D modeling (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station V8i)
- Experience with PLSCAD, LPILE, STAAD, or similar structural programs
- Strong knowledge of substation industry standards and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
