Summary

The Senior Chemical Engineer is a professional‑level position with minimal supervision that applies advanced engineering principles to design, develop, and evaluate chemical processes and products. Responsibilities include leading projects, developing test procedures, performing complex evaluations, and providing technical guidance to management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and/or project/process management of new and current products, programs, components, tools, and acceptance equipment.
  • Drive development of test procedures and perform complex engineering evaluation tests, product and process capability studies, quality audits, and data reviews.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, analyze discrepancies, and recommend improvements for product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Formulate and justify technical positions to all levels of management.
  • Oversee the acquisition of tooling, gauging, and other equipment necessary to manufacture or inspect parts.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex design, development, production, and acceptance issues.
  • Guide evaluations and provide input on technological advances that enhance productivity and operational suitability.
  • Provide mentorship, advice, and insight to other employees to ensure project and product compliance.
  • Support business objectives that involve long‑range or complex activities within the field of expertise.
  • Exercise influence on overall objectives and long‑range goals of the business unit.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program or a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from an accredited program.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience in engineering, analysis, or related technical activities.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid or on‑site environment as directed by management.
  • United States citizenship.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance if required; some positions may need additional DOE designations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Product Realization Teams (PRTs).
  • Systems engineering experience – knowledge of requirements compliance and verification.
  • Master of Science or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Physics preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing or quality processes and techniques.
  • Demonstrated application of advanced design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to complex engineering concepts and projects.
