Senior Structural Engineer – HDR

HDR, an employee‑owned engineering firm, invites an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead the design of high‑performance, sustainable infrastructure that supports the digital age. The role is based in Kansas City, Missouri, with additional locations in Wichita, St. Louis, and Omaha.

Responsibilities
  • Lead structural analysis and detailed design of concrete, steel, aluminum, and masonry systems.
  • Complete, verify, and coordinate structural calculations and contract documents.
  • Review structural work for completeness and resolve conflicts with other engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate structural design teams throughout design development and construction phases.
  • Manage workload and budget as design lead or assistant project manager.
  • Perform structural condition assessments of existing facilities and field inspections of construction projects.
  • Evaluate geotechnical report findings and design appropriate foundation systems for heavy civil projects.
  • Meet with clients, owners, operators, and governing agencies to determine structural requirements.
  • Assist in the management of the structural work group, including staff development, profitability, morale, and quality control.
  • Implement and support company policy and participate in structural practice development with HDR’s nationwide network.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering with structural emphasis.
  • Revit Structural experience.
  • Experience with ACI 350, concrete structure design.
  • Knowledge of International Building Code, ASCE‑7, and industry‑specific design standards.
  • Experience with structural analysis software and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and practice development skills.
  • Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations, layouts, and detailing for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
