Structural Practice Lead, Midwest

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects is seeking a full‑time Structural Engineer Practice Leader to support our structural team in Kansas City, MO. The candidate will lead the structural design of small to medium‑sized projects, mentor entry‑level staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers. Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor are essential.

• Design and detail building‑type structures, including reinforced concrete, pre‑stressed concrete, steel, light gauge steel, wood, earth retaining systems, and light industrial structures.
• Perform complex engineering tasks accurately and extract engineering information from CAD and REVIT drawings.
• Develop drawings, specifications, and other procurement materials for construction purposes.
• Lead the structural design of projects and mentor junior staff in producing construction drawings.
• Communicate effectively with senior staff and clients to provide reports and updates.
• Maintain quality control of building structures and oversee field inspections.

• Minimum 10 years of structural design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer licensed in at least one state, with ability to obtain additional licenses within 6 months.
• Proficiency in plan development, analysis, design calculations, and quality control of building structures.
• Knowledge of IBC, AISC, ACI, AISI, NDS, and state‑specific codes.
• Experience with software such as Mathcad, RISA, Enercalc, ETABS, SAP
  2000, and related engineering tools.
• Seismic design experience preferred.
• Experience with design‑build and alternative delivery methods preferred.
• Ability to travel for business if required.

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Strong engineering principles to lead and perform engineering designs.
• Collaboration with structural engineers and CADD/REVIT technicians.

Base salary range: $125,000 – $145,000 per year, depending on experience.
