Daily Building Substitute at Congress - Full-Time
Starting Date: Aug 18, 2025
Location: Congress Middle School - Kansas City, Missouri
Job DescriptionAn experienced teacher or substitute ready to step into any class as needed. The daily building substitute is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach scheduled classes and follow the teacher’s written lesson plans. Prepare a written summary of work.
- Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
- Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and concerns.
- Comply with all building procedures and schedules; promote proper use and care of school facilities.
- Notify the absent teacher of any special situations or problems.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative directives.
- Implement effective pupil management procedures; maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code, intervening as needed.
- Develop and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Work cooperatively with staff.
- Incorporate the effective use of available instructional technology.
- Uphold acceptable use of computer technology.
- Respect personal privacy; maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
- Ensure safety of staff and students; do not leave students unattended.
- Supervise non‑classroom duties when required.
- Take personal responsibility for decisions and actions.
- Perform other specific job‑related duties as assigned.
- Hold a current Missouri Teaching certificate or a valid Substitute certificate.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to follow both oral and written directions.
- Ability to communicate in both oral and written English.
- Ability to utilize a wide array of instructional technology and computer applications.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Ability to effectively manage time and work well under a fast‑paced environment.
- Professional appearance, attitude, and demeanor.
Requires frequent sitting; occasional walking and standing. Requires good vision (close, distance, depth perception) and hearing within quiet environments.
Mental/Motor DemandsRequires flexibility to shift tasks, ability to maintain attention under time constraints, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
