PURPOSE OF JOB:
To assist Pre-K instructional teams by supporting effective classroom routines and carrying out developmentally appropriate learning activities. The Part-Time Early Learning Assistant (P.E.L.A.) will guide young children through activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth necessary for Kindergarten readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adhere to all state child care licensing regulations, KCPS Pre-K regulations, and policies.

Monitor student arrival and departure, maintaining daily records as applicable.

Report incidents, suspected abuse, neglect, or contagious diseases promptly, following district guidelines.

Maintain staff-student ratios and supervisory requirements, including substituting as needed.

Participate in cleaning and safety procedures, including transition protocols between areas.

Implement data-driven lesson plans using approved curriculum and assessments, including routines and individualization.

Support children's social, emotional, and physical development using Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline techniques.

Attend required training and professional development sessions.

Maintain a professional demeanor, fostering a positive environment aligned with KCPS Early Learning and Conscious Discipline philosophies.

Use district communication tools effectively in job duties.

Maintain current Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED-BL certification.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Interest and ability to work with children aged three and four, understanding their developmental needs.

Pass background checks, physical, and TB screening.

Reliable transportation, as travel to various Pre-K locations may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or higher education in related fields, or enrolled in such programs.

Qualifying score on Para Pro Assessment or 60 college hours with a 2.5 GPA, including 24 hours in early childhood or related courses.

Missouri substitute teacher certification.

Experience working with children and families in urban settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, bend, lift children up to 40 pounds, use stairs, move quickly, and spend time outdoors in various weather conditions. Visual abilities include mono and color vision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary, part-time, 10 months, up to 5.5 hours per day, five days a week (27.5 hours/week). The schedule aligns with the KCPS school calendar. Multiple shift options are available. Cannot be combined with other full-time KCPS roles.
