Position Overview
The Bachelor of Health Sciences Program is housed in the KU School of Professional Studies located on the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas. The campus offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates, with classes geared toward working professionals, available in the evening, online and in‑person. The School of Professional Studies was created in 2019 with a vision to transform students’ lives and improve communities through innovative, student‑focused programs that lead to rewarding careers.
The KU online Bachelor of Health Sciences is a degree completion program for students who have completed an associate’s degree or equivalent hours. The program also offers elective courses in nutrition, public and population health, and health management and policy.
The KU Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is a new degree that will launch in Fall 2026, in‑person at the Lawrence campus, and hybrid at the KU Edwards Campus.
Job DescriptionThe Director of the Health Sciences program invites applications for a non‑tenure track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of the Practice. The faculty position will primarily teach the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition program and the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences programs and associated minors. Courses are offered on the Edwards Campus, at the Lawrence campus, and online.
The appointment is 12‑month, initially 3 years, with a typical course load of three classes each fall and spring semester and two courses each summer semester. Subsequent appointments may be offered upon satisfactory performance evaluation.

Teaching – 75%- Teach eight (8) courses per year, preparing for and attending all class meetings, developing assignments, designing class activities, evaluating student work in a timely manner, and assigning grades in accordance with university policies.
- Develop and update syllabi, study guides, instructor’s guides, test questions, tests, and web‑based materials; assist in implementing technology and student‑centered pedagogies; hold regular office hours.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum remains relevant, engage with community college faculty for transfer pipelines, and work with agencies and employers to translate workforce needs into academic curriculum.
- Mentor undergraduate students and perform service to the program, the School of Professional Studies, the University, the metro area, the State, the Nation, and the profession.
- Serve on appropriate unit‑level undergraduate committees and other committees as required.
- Minimum master’s degree in nutrition or a closely related discipline; a master’s in another field may be considered if combined with three or more years of professional experience as a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or other relevant field.
- Experience teaching at the college level, including online instruction.
- Experience teaching undergraduate nutrition courses and other relevant health sciences courses that align with program needs.
- Demonstrated written communication skills evident in application materials.
- Assistant Professor of the Practice – 3 – 5 years of nutrition‑related professional experience.
- Associate Professor of the Practice – 6 – 15 years of nutrition‑related professional experience.
- Professor of the Practice – more than 15 years of nutrition‑related professional experience.
