Job Description
The Design Drafter is responsible for producing accurate models, drawings, and documentation to support manufacturing and production. This role focuses on drafting execution, detailing, and maintaining established standards. The Design Drafter works from defined specifications, instructions, and existing designs to create clear, complete, and production-ready deliverables.
Responsibilities- Produce detailed models, shop drawings, finish schedules, bills of material, and cut lists using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Generate CNC programs using Wood Wop based on approved drawings and specifications.
- Maintain drawings, files, and folder structures in accordance with department standards.
- Accurately update and revise drawings based on redlines, engineering changes, or production feedback.
- Organize, track, and manage documentation using team collaboration tools for multi-item and multi-phase orders.
- Apply standard drafting practices, methods, and processes with a strong focus on accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Work from written and verbal instructions, procedures, sketches, and direction provided by designers, engineers, or other functional team members.
- Assist with maintaining Inventor templates, material libraries, and appearance libraries.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing methods, tooling requirements, and mixed material construction (wood, metal, plastics) to drafting outputs.
- Ensure drawings meet the required level of detail for fabrication and installation.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to drafting standards, templates, and documentation workflows.
- Degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field or 1 year of drafting experience.
- Autodesk Inventor experience required
- Wood Wop CNC software experience preferred
- Experience with Net Suite is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, including formulas and tables, and Word).
- Ability to follow established standards, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Solid time management skills with the ability to handle multiple drafting tasks and deadlines.
- Effective oral, written, and visual communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take direction from designers, engineers, and project leads.
