Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a Creative Director to lead the creative vision and execution of our digital products—most importantly GoComics, our flagship platform, along with other current and future digital experiences. This role will guide the creative direction of the product experience, manage a small creative team, and partner closely with leadership to shape what we build next.

This is a highly collaborative role that bridges creative strategy, design, content, and product development. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a nimble environment, collaborating cross-functionally with technical partners, and supporting products rooted in the work of creators and artists.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Vision & Product Experience

  • Define and evolve the creative vision for GoComics and other digital products.
  • Ensure the user experience and creative execution align with product goals, brand standards, and audience needs.
  • Lead ideation and creative problem-solving to improve engagement, usability, and content presentation.
  • Manage and mentor a small creative team, including:
  • A Product / Visual Designer
  • A Content Strategist / Writer
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and coaching to support high-quality work and team growth.
  • Contribute hands-on when needed—supporting content, design direction, and production to keep work moving.

Strategic Partnership & Innovation

  • Partner closely with the leadership to:
  • Identify new product opportunities born from our publishing strategy
  • Conceive new digital experiences
  • Drive strategic improvements to existing platforms
  • Bring proactive ideas and creative leadership to help shape product priorities and the roadmap.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with digital departments (engineering, QA, product management, operations) as well as other company stakeholders from publishing and syndication.
  • Translate creative concepts into clear direction and practical plans that can be executed by cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain a solutions-first approach, staying open to iteration based on feedback, constraints, and technical needs.

Creator-First Mindset

  • Bring an appreciation for comics and creator-driven content.
  • Understand that our products are platforms that represent and elevate the work of creators (comics, puzzles, books, and other artistic expressions).
  • Demonstrate the ability to respectfully interface with creators and maintain a high standard of representation for their work.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading creative work for digital products, platforms, or content-driven experiences.
  • Strength in either content strategy/writing or visual/product design, with meaningful working knowledge of the other discipline.
  • (Example: a content-led leader who understands design deeply enough to direct designers, or a design-led leader who can guide strong content strategy.)
  • Experience managing creative professionals (designers, writers, or both).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and operational teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, adapt quickly, and iterate toward the best product outcome.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with media, publishing, entertainment, comics, puzzles, or creator-led products.
  • Familiarity with modern product development workflows and digital collaboration practices.
  • Track record of guiding creative strategy across a product lifecycle (discovery > concept > launch > iteration).
Characteristics of Success in This Role

The right candidate will be:

  • Collaborative, warm, candid, and supportive—someone who elevates team culture.
  • Nimble and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small-team environment.
  • A “creative chameleon” who can shift easily between creative vision and technical reality.
  • Constructive and resilient—able to take feedback without ego and focus on solutions over perfection.
  • Excited by building products centered on creators and storytelling.
About the Team & Company

We are a small, collaborative digital product team within a publishing organization that also includes a newspaper syndication arm. Our products highlight beloved content and creators—especially within comics, including iconic titles such as Peanuts, Garfield, and Calvin and Hobbes—and serve audiences who care deeply about this work.

  • We are a family-owned, private publisher, and our team operates with agility, curiosity, and a strong sense of shared ownership.
