Overview

Superintendent 1 — Kansas City, MO, US

JE Dunn Construction is seeking a Superintendent to lead safety culture, project planning, and field management on industrial projects within our Advanced Facilities Group.

Key Role Responsibilities – Core
  • Leads all aspects of the company7s safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment; investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
  • Manages subcontractors and the overall job workflow.
  • Oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinates and manages care, custody and control of the project site.
  • Leads meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
  • Attends and participates in progress and project meetings as appropriate.
  • Creates, manages, and updates the project schedule in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • May track and monitor project budget and costs using cost reports and data from the Project Manager.
  • Communicates key project information to owners, design team, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments.
  • Maintains project filing and documentation; updates drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks.
  • Records unit costs for weekly reports and completes daily and tracking reports.
  • Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
  • Supports procurement and approval processes related to materials and costs.
  • Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations.
  • Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes.
  • Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC, and external resources.
  • Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with owners, architects and authorities.
  • Gains understanding of the project pursuit process and methodology.
  • Participates with field operations leadership to plan and implement project pre-plans; monitors and adjusts throughout the lifecycle.
  • Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing.
  • Identifies schedule and cost implications of project changes with project management.
  • Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to gain agreement for changes.
  • Participates in project reviews and buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Understands and applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
  • Identifies and recruits top talent and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion in line with company policy.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Understanding of construction management fundamentals and project processes that support successful project completion.
  • Ability to build relationships across teams and with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management and accounting software and JE Dunn construction technology.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and Lean process/philosophy.
  • Knowledge of specific trades, self-perform work, labor productivity, budgets, and profitability.
  • Ability to understand document changes and their impact on schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, internally and externally.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).
Experience
  • 3+ years construction experience.
  • 1+ years field supervision experience.
Working Environment
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • May work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • Frequent activity:
    Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling.
  • Occasional activity:
    Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen.
