Construction Inspector

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is currently seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for our Kansas City office. The role involves inspecting specific operations on construction job sites for transportation projects. Residing in the greater Kansas City area is not required, as inspectors typically report to various project locations.

• Observe and inspect construction projects from beginning to completion, documenting daily progress, tracking materials and quantities, sampling and testing materials, and maintaining accurate records.
• Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents, recognizing and reporting any deviations.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing and report on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
• Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication to answer inquiries as required.
• Attend project meetings to gain insight prior to construction, track progress, and participate in related discussions.
• Measure and scale distances, using competent math skills to document work accurately.

• Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time for on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
• Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
• Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT and/or KDOT specifications, and ability to learn on the job.
• Ability to work independently with efficient time management practices.
• Effective written and oral communication skills and coordination with owners, landowners, and contractors.
• Disciplined record-keeping of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
• Experience working with DOTs and understanding their requirements and expectations.

• 2+ years of construction-related experience preferred but not required.
• MoDOT Technician Certification and/or KDOT Certified Inspector Training Program Certification is a plus, or willingness to obtain certification.

Annual Salary Range: $33,000 - $83,000
