Position: Benefits Specialist - Non-Employee Facing

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional, administrative support for the medical, dental, vision, spending accounts, STD/LTD, and voluntary benefits (critical illness, hospital indemnity and accident).
  • Data entry to enroll and update employee information in carrier portals using multiple benefits administration/payroll systems to extract necessary reports or data.
  • Process and audit benefits billing.
  • Compile data from multiple sources to create reports or spreadsheets.
  • Coordinate communication with carriers and clients via phone and email.
  • Exercise judgment and discretion in seeking advice to ensure compliance with federal laws such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and state laws in regard to the multiple states in which our clients do business.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel; including creating and modifying formulas, as well as creating and using pivot tables to organize data.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products.
  • Familiar with various HRIS, payroll systems, benefits administration systems, carrier administration portals (BCBS, UHC, Cigna, Delta Dental) and understanding of connection between benefits administration system and the carrier.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with clients and internal stakeholders to relay accurate, appropriate, and timely information.
  • Strong organizational skills, strict attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Self-directed, works with minimal supervision.
  • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.
Education and Experience
  • BS in Business Administration, HR, or related field and/or years of experience equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of benefits administration experience primarily in the areas of health, new employee onboarding and annual open enrollment.
