Deposit Operations Manager

Overview

Our Deposit Operations team within Bank Operations involves managing backend processing and support for UMB’s deposit accounts, handling daily transactions (ACH, wires, checks, etc.), resolving exceptions, balancing GL accounts, and more.

As the Deposit Operations Manager, you will oversee daily operations for account reconciliation, account servicing functions, incoming/outgoing returns processing, exceptions, charge-off and recovery processes, and regulatory/compliance tasks. You will lead and coach Operations Managers and teams, set performance expectations, foster accountability, and drive continuous improvement. This role includes identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, improve accuracy, and enhance the customer experience in partnership with various business partners.

This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which will include multiple initiatives as assigned by Bank Operations leadership.

This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) at the UMB Technology & Operations Center located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

• Execute the overall strategy and direction of the bank by consistently meeting and exceeding business objectives.
• Own and actively monitor expenses, aiming to operate at or below the current budget level for each department.
• Be responsible for the Operations Managers of respective teams and the delivery of operational metrics and targets.
• Proactively maintain regular engagement with key client contacts in line with client expectations.
• Ensure delivery of client KPIs including day-to-day service levels, customer experience, quality measures, and compliance measures.
• Develop the operational talent pool by optimizing the skills of the Operations Managers and existing teams, in partnership with internal recruitment teams to attract top talent; implement succession planning.
• Successfully deliver and manage peak periods in respective teams.
• Continuously identify and implement operational best practices through interaction with business partners.
• Execute a well-defined communication and engagement model so all teams understand performance and business needs.
• Provide Vendor management support.
• Review and analyze production reports related to productivity, quality, and efficiency; follow up on gaps in standards and expectations.
• Challenge, develop, and improve process efficiencies.
• Set challenging goals that promote innovation, creativity, and development of staff and managers.
• Develop, monitor, and enforce documented controls as part of our risk management process.
• Remain current and maintain documentation related to Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity activities.

• At least 7 years of experience in banking operations.
• At least 5 years of managerial experience.
• Experience in high-volume environments.
• Strong leadership that can drive change and enable seamless adoption.
• Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, managers, business partners, customers, and vendors.
• Proven ability to lead teams and activities.
• Detail-oriented with high quality output.
• Ability to manage managers and teams of associates.
• Experience participating in business partner, customer, and vendor meetings.
• Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to develop and execute innovative ideas.

• At least 10 years of experience in financial services / banking industry.
