Overview

Our client is a nationally recognized, employee-owned design-build general contractor with a strong track record delivering large-scale, complex construction projects across the United States. Operating in sectors such as mission critical, industrial, manufacturing, commercial, and advanced technology, the firm combines development capability with in‑house design-build expertise to offer a truly integrated delivery model.

As the business continues to expand its mission critical/data center footprint, they are seeking a Director of Business Development to drive strategic growth, strengthen customer relationships, and position the firm as a partner of choice for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center clients.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact leadership position responsible for building and executing the growth strategy for the Mission Critical/Data Center division. You will leverage your background in general contracting and your deep understanding of the mission critical market to identify new opportunities, cultivate client partnerships, and shape long-term revenue expansion.

You'll work closely with senior leadership, operations, preconstruction, and marketing teams to deliver a cohesive growth plan rooted in technical credibility and industry insight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a national growth strategy for mission critical and data center markets.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities with hyperscalers, colocation providers, enterprise clients, and mission critical end users.
  • Expand the firm's national presence in established and emerging data center markets.
Client & Partner Development
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with developers, owners, design partners, and consulting engineers.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and relationship-building activities.
  • Drive repeat business through exceptional client engagement and service delivery.
Internal Leadership & Collaboration
  • Partner with operations and preconstruction leaders to ensure accurate proposal development, pricing strategy, and project pursuit plans.
  • Lead pursuit teams on RFPs, proposals, and interview presentations.
  • Support go/no-go decisions and pipeline forecasting aligned with company revenue goals.
Market Intelligence
  • Track industry trends, competitive activity, and market shifts in hyperscale, cloud/AI infrastructure, renewable energy, and emerging data center technologies.
  • Provide insight to leadership on market opportunities, risks, and strategic positioning.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience in business development within a general contracting or design-build environment
    .
  • Demonstrated success growing a mission critical or data center division/business unit
    .
  • Strong understanding of data center project delivery, redundancy requirements (Tier III/Tier IV), MEP-intensive construction, and large-scale mission critical operations.
  • Established network within hyperscale, colocation, cloud, or mission critical verticals (preferred).
  • Ability to develop executive-level relationships and influence decision-making.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Passion for growth, entrepreneurship, and representing an employee-owned organization
    .
Why Join This Firm?
  • Employee-Owned (ESOP): Build long-term wealth while shaping a rapidly expanding business unit.
  • National Platform: Opportunity to lead pursuits in top data center markets across the country.
  • Design-Build Expertise: Join a company with in-house design, engineering, and construction resources for streamlined delivery.
  • High Autonomy: Freedom to shape strategy, build the team, and drive meaningful impact.
  • Strong Culture & Leadership: Collaborative, transparent, and growth-oriented environment.
