The Lockton Surety Operations group has supported Lockton’s growing Property & Casualty and People Solutions Clients since the company’s Founding in 1966. Surety bonds are required for almost all of Lockton’s Clients to operate and grow their business, and especially critical for our Construction and Engineering Clients. The Contract Surety Financial Analyst position provides the opportunity to learn this specialized line of business in support of the broad Contract Surety team, while engaging with several of Lockton’s other service divisions and Production teams across the broader Midwest and beyond.
As a Contract Surety Financial Analyst, your role would include the following, under the guidance of a Surety Director or equivalent:
- Assist and help coordinate the marketing placement and/or renewal of current Client business from origination to completion; assist Unit Leader is developing and cross-selling of new business.
- Analyze financial statements with an emphasis on how surety underwriters view credit quality.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with Clients and surety carriers to facilitate positive Client outcomes.
- Conduct analyses on Clients’ financial stability, credit arrangements, business plans, and economic outlook and build business case for marketplace support.
- Prepare and help present professional presentations, both oral and written, for all levels of Client contact.
- Respond in a timely manner to the requests and needs of Clients and Prospective Clients as well as Lockton Producers and Unit Leaders and Associates from other Lockton departments.
- Participate in the solicitation process for new surety Clients with Lockton producers as a surety resource.
- Attend industry events, educational workshops, internal staff meetings, and Client events—including some that will fall outside of normal business hours, and may involve regional travel.
- Work with other Associates from the Surety team to maintain Client relationships and to develop new marketing methods, channels, and tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (accounting, finance, business administration, economics) or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience; graduate degree or MBA is a plus, but not required.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMs.
- Familiarity and comfort with utilizing AI for information gathering and research support.
- Ability to efficiently organize work and manage time to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand and analyze financial statements.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with Associates at all levels of Lockton.
- Desire to develop brokering skills to influence underwriting outcomes through professional, tactful negotiations.
- Ability and willingness to travel long distances via automobile and aircraft for meetings and events.
- Ability to obtain insurance producer’s license and complete continuing education requirements as needed.
- Ability to attend company, department, and team meetings as required, including industry training sessions.
- Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures, proactively protecting confidentiality of client and company information.
- Ability to use office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, calculator, photocopier, and facsimile machine.
- Ability to work on a computer for a prolonged amount of time.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
- Legally able to work in the United States.
