Position Overview:
As a Consumer Products Director for the Professional Football League, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the League's consumer products strategy to drive revenue, enhance the fan experience, and strengthen the League's brand presence. This position requires strong business acumen, creativity, and a passion for sports merchandise and licensing. You will collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and vendors to create and distribute a wide range of consumer products that resonate with fans and align with the League's brand values.
- Develop and execute the League's consumer products strategy, aligning it with the overall business objectives and brand positioning.
- Conduct market research to identify consumer preferences, trends, and opportunities for product development and expansion.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Marketing, Licensing, and Retail, to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to consumer products.
- Oversee the end‑to‑end product development process, from concept ideation to product launch and post‑launch management.
- Identify and assess potential product categories, partnerships, and licensing opportunities.
- Work closely with design and development teams to create innovative and high‑quality consumer products.
- Manage the League's licensing program, including contract negotiations, relationship management with licensees, and royalty tracking.
- Identify and secure new licensing partnerships that align with the League's brand values and expand its product portfolio.
- Collaborate with partners to develop co‑branded products and ensure adherence to brand guidelines and quality standards.
- Develop and implement merchandising strategies to maximize product visibility, sales, and fan engagement.
- Collaborate with retail partners and oversee the management of the League's official retail stores and e‑commerce platforms.
- Monitor inventory levels, analyze sales data, and implement promotional initiatives to drive product performance.
- Ensure all consumer products align with the League's brand guidelines, quality standards, and licensing requirements.
- Work closely with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure intellectual property rights protection and compliance with regulations.
- Monitor and address counterfeit merchandise issues and take appropriate actions to protect the League's brand integrity.
- Develop and manage the consumer products budget, ensuring cost‑effective operations and revenue growth.
- Monitor sales performance, analyze market trends, and identify opportunities for revenue optimization.
- Implement pricing strategies, sales promotions, and product bundling to drive sales and profitability.
- Lead and manage a team of product managers, designers, and merchandising professionals.
- Foster a collaborative and high‑performance team culture, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Marketing, Sales, and Operations, to align consumer product strategies with broader organizational goals.
- Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers.
- Negotiate contracts, ensure timely delivery of products, and maintain quality control standards.
- Stay informed about industry trends, innovations, and best practices in consumer products and merchandising.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven experience in consumer products, merchandising, or licensing, preferably in the sports or entertainment industry.
- Strong knowledge of product development processes, merchandising strategies, and licensing principles.
- Familiarity with intellectual property rights, trademarks, and licensing agreements.
