Position OverviewThe Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting budgeting, compliance, and analytical efforts across the organization. This role is well-suited for an experienced accounting professional with strong technical skills, job cost accounting experience, and a high level of accuracy in a dynamic, multi-divisional environment.
This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and offers a clear growth path toward Accounting Manager or Controller
, based on experience and performance.
- Manage general ledger activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Support accurate and timely financial reporting across multiple business divisions
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to support business decision-making
- Collaborate with divisional leaders to improve financial visibility and operational efficiency
- Perform job cost accounting for construction and maintenance projects
- Track labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs
- Analyze cost variances and support project-level financial reporting
- Support inventory accounting, fixed asset tracking, and cost allocations
- Oversee or support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow monitoring
- Assist with tax-related documentation and external audits
- Provide guidance and support to accounting staff as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience; construction or multi-divisional experience preferred
- CPA or CMA a plus
- Strong experience with job cost accounting and project-based financial tracking
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to adapt to accounting and ERP systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
