Mobile Maintenance Technician (Diesel)

Location: Kansas City, KS

Position

Description:

We are hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Mobile Maintenance Technician (Diesel) to support our Truck Fleet in Kansas City, KS. The role involves traveling on a Ryder Mobile Maintenance Truck to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, customer account management, and record keeping in a fast‑paced environment.

Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: $37.00 per hour
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification (up to $700)
  • Quarterly Bonus:
    Up to $500 each quarter (four times per year)
  • Sign‑On Bonus: $2,500 after 30 days and $2,500 after 90 days
  • Schedule:

    Tuesday – Saturday (First Shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm)

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational or Technical Certification in related field preferred
  • 4+ years of advanced mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty / medium‑duty equipment
  • Required tools listed in Ryder's Maintenance Policy 2.02
  • Drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, background check, and motor‑vehicle check (last 3 years)
  • Ability to operate a mobile service truck and secure it
  • Valid driver's license (ND non‑commercial, CDL Class A, or State license as required)
  • Strong customer service, account management, and communication skills
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair skills
  • Proficiency with shop computers and diagnostic test equipment (advanced level)
  • Completion of specific OEM diagnostic training as per fleet (e.g., SBT, TW, PM, BA, BH, CF, AC, DR, etc.) within specified timelines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and multi‑tasking skills
  • Security clearance:
    Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, background and motor‑vehicle check (last 3 years)
  • Capability to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire (regulation)
Regulated Technician Requirements
  • Obtain CDL within 6 months of hire
  • Pass all required tests (drug, DOT, road, background, motor‑vehicle)
Responsibilities
  • Interact with customers, manage accounts, facilitate preventive maintenance, repair issue resolution, and present new repair estimates
  • Coordinate work schedules and execute road‑tests to diagnose problems
  • Perform a comprehensive range of PM and repair tasks including:
    • A/C & Heater – system checks, leak identification, compressor operation
    • Brakes‑Air – component identification, noise detection, test, adjustment, and repair per BA298
    • Brakes‑Hydraulic – road test, visual checks, fluid level, parking brake, repairs per BH298
    • Cargo Handling – lift gate operation, fluid maintenance, basic fault fixes
    • Charging Systems – battery inspection, belt maintenance, alternator checks
    • Clutch – lubrication, operation checks
    • Cooling Systems – coolant levels, leaks, hose/fan repairs
    • Cranking System – battery and starter checks, replacement
    • Lighting/Electrical Accessories – wiring, bulb replacement, fixture repair
    • Drive Axles – leak inspection, oil and filter changes
    • Driveline – lubrication, component inspection
    • Engine – oil level checks, noise and leak identification
    • Fuel Systems – filter replacement, line integrity checks
    • Preventive Maintenance – general inspection, lube techniques, tire & wheel checks, PM documentation
    • Steering & Alignment – grease, fluid, toe, alignment; trailer axle adjustment
    • Suspension & Chassis – leak detection, spring inspection
    • Tire & Wheel – pressure checks, tread depth, assembly changes, alignment
    • Vehicle Coupling – fifth‑wheel lubrication and operation
  • Utilize Shop Management System and electronic documentation for all service activities
  • Maintain all safety and environmental records as required by corporate, federal, state, and local mandates
  • Track key maintenance metrics per company policy and customer safety
  • Mentor lower‑level Mobile Technicians
  • Perform other duties as assigned
