SUMMARY

The HVAC Technician is responsible for all maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all HVAC equipment, systems, and machinery at all facilities college wide. This position will also be responsible for all HVAC related Help Desk tickets and work at all KCKCC facilities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Install and maintain the HVAC systems at all KCKCC locations: including but not limited to heating, cooling, exhaust, wall mounted, RTU's, plant systems, and overhead units.
  • Install HVAC ductwork.
  • Conserve, install, and recycle CFC and HCFC refrigerants.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts.
  • Reviews existing systems for proper operations and effects repairs to the following systems, including but not limited to thermostats, fan motors, actuators, heating elements, belts, etc.
  • Be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Diagnose and repair minor electrical and plumbing problems.
  • Prepare surfaces to be painted.
  • Perform general maintenance in all KCKCC facilities.
  • Perform remodel work.
  • Responsible for PMs of all HVAC related equipment.
  • Assist in the development/tracking of departmental budged spending and authorization based on the needs of each department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong organizational skills, effective communication, time management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of how to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment found in large facilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of HVAC equipment and BAS controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine/preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to read blueprints, and CAD related software.
  • Diagnose and repair minor electrical and plumbing problems related to HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • EPA certified within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Six (6) or more months experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • At least Three (3) years HVAC experience.
  • Trade school certification in HVAC or related area.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or higher degree in a related field.
  • An understanding of local building codes.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project.
  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Visual ability sufficient to drive vehicles.
WORK SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30 pm or 9:30am
-6:00pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
