Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer
BD Diagnostic, a global leader in medical technology, invites a field-based Automation Service Engineer to support laboratory automation customers throughout the Chicago, IL region. The role requires on‑site installation, preventive and corrective maintenance of sophisticated diagnostic instrumentation and strong customer advocacy.
Responsibilities- Provide onsite support for installation, service and troubleshooting of laboratory automation instrumentation under ISO, GMP, HIPAA, OSHA and FDA standards.
- Deliver clear, timely communication to customers regarding service expectations and arrange follow‑up calls in support of BD Customer Experience initiatives.
- Diagnose hardware and software issues, determine corrective actions, upgrade systems and work independently using schematics, diagrams, service manuals and other documentation.
- Maintain and improve service documentation and vendor credentialing programs, complete administrative requirements within expected time frames.
- Manage trunk stock inventory, maintain calibrated test equipment, adhere to expense guidelines and maintain the company vehicle in compliance with fleet contractor requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Informatics, Mechatronics or Biomedical, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of electronics, electro‑mechanical devices, PLCs, pneumatics, networking architecture and computer operating systems.
- Proficiency in software installations and upgrades, basic computer security concepts and excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, outstanding customer service abilities and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license, flexible hours, travel up to 50% of time outside home geographic area and on‑call availability.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently, 70 lbs infrequently and handle standing, bending and stooping for up to 10 hours, push/pull materials up to 100 lbs and adhere to all PPE standards.
- 10+ year career with expertise in robotics, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of sophisticated instrumentation.
- Experience with highly complex robotic systems and automated equipment in technical environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and database management capabilities.
- Technical certifications such as A+, Microsoft or Cisco considered advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical expertise to solve complex problems and maintain operational excellence of robotic systems.

Salary Range: $26.10 - $43.00 USD Hourly
