What Your Job Will Be Like:
Our Systems Engineering Team is seeking a graduate student intern for Summer 2026! Qualified candidates will support modeling, validation, and verification activities for advanced flight systems. This role involves demonstrating and implementing advanced SysML modeling techniques tools such as Magic Draw for system architecture modeling, and may include contributing to test planning, execution, and reporting. Candidates should have strong analytical skills and familiarity with a broad range of engineering disciplines.
This internship offers hands‑on experience in a highly collaborative environment supporting Sandia's nuclear deterrence mission.
- Supporting the development of a federated set of Magic Draw models specifying the requirements, architecture, verification, and physical aspects of an advanced vehicle system
- Utilizing advanced systems engineering modeling techniques to improve design quality, to enable collaboration, and to prepare for integration and flight of the vehicle system
- Modeling system operation and integration behaviors in Magic Draw
- Designing test configurations and activities for verification planning
- Contributing to component environmental testing
- Scripting in Magic Draw to create document templates and other products to streamline access across interdisciplinary teams and sponsors

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. - Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note:

- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0
- Familiarity with systems engineering concepts and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools
- Proficient with SysML and Magic Draw
- Demonstrated ability to interact well with diverse teams
- Demonstrated ability to develop new knowledge and learn new skills
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Jython, Python, and Java
- R&D experience including project work, technical presentations and/or publications
