Job Description
PurposeThe job of Accompanist - High School/Middle School is done for the purpose of providing accompaniment for rehearsals and performances to showcase students and assisting the Vocal Director.

Qualifications- Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: proficiency in keyboard playing; and operating a computer using pertinent software applications, reading music, use of recording equipment.
- Knowledge is required to perform basic math, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.
- Accompanies on the keyboard, students and groups of students (e.g. chorales, choirs, solo performers, etc.) for the purpose of supporting their musical experience.
- Read music and sight read music; use of recording equipment; and working as part of a team.
- Assists students or teachers in music selections for the purpose of ensuring appropriate music is selected.
- Exhibits professional and stage etiquette for the purpose of maintaining the professionalism of musical productions.
- Participates in accompanying students/groups at events (e.g. Regional Small Festival, State Small Group Festival, Large Group Contest, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that students and group perform their best.
- Participates in rehearsals and performances of school music events for the purpose of adding to the success of the program.
- Supervises sectionals when teacher divides groups for the purpose of effective practicing time for all students.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires significant fine finger dexterity.
- Requires some travel.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
- Ability to be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions, and locations.
- Must possess good judgment.
- Work under limited supervision.
- Follow standardized practices and/or methods.
- Provide information and/or advise others.
- Schedule activities and meetings.
- Utilize resources from other work units if required to perform the job's functions.
- Ability to perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the choral department.
Academic year plus other days as assigned.
EvaluationPerformance effectiveness evaluated in accordance with Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
