The Nurse Manager – Labor & Delivery provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Labor and Delivery and collaborates with Post Partum, and Nursery services. This role is accountable for advancing professional nursing practice, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving quality and patient experience outcomes, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and achieving financial and operational performance targets.

EssentialJob Duties
Clinical & Operational Leadership
- Manages the daily clinical and operations of Labor and Delivery.
- Oversees clinical services in all areas of assignment to promote interdisciplinary team development and movement along the continuum.
- Establishes and monitors unit productivity and ensures appropriate staffing at all times.
- Review HRIS reports to ensure appropriate staff levels and skill mix on a daily basis.
- Prompt team for rounds to start on time, help keep team focused.
- Integrates the departments into the mainstream of Riverside Health Care in support of the organizational mission.
- Approves and implements department policies and procedures.
Quality, Safety & Professional Practice
- Provides leadership and direction for ensuring quality patient care.
- Establishes and maintains QI standards and measurements.
- Provides leadership and direction for improving patient/customer satisfaction.
- Reviews Press Ganey to improve patient satisfaction/teach/create initiatives.
- Support/assure development and maintenance of nurse/physician collaboration.
- The Nurse Manager supports evidence-based maternal safety initiatives, regulatory readiness, and professional nursing standards consistent with Magnet designation, Safe Sleep, Blue Distinction, etc.
Financial & Resource Stewardship
- Manages and provides leadership in financial matters regarding budgeting and cost control and revenue generation.
- Ensures responsible fiscal oversight while maintaining high standards of patient care and workforce sustainability.
Physician & Interdisciplinary Leadership
- Establishes and maintains excellent physician relationships and works to resolve medical staff problems in a timely manner.
- Promotes a culture of mutual respect, accountability, and shared clinical decision-making.
Workforce Leadership & Engagement
- Actively engages in interviews and other staff recruitment initiatives.
- Creates environment of teamwork and collaboration to improve staff satisfaction and enhance retention.
- Communicates pertinent hospital and patient care information to staff.
- Participates and contributes to assigned committees, teams, task forces, including community service if applicable.
- Fosters professional development, engagement, and alignment with Riverside’s mission and values.
Strategic Growth & Organizational Impact
- Develops and promotes new programs to strengthen Riverside's overall reputation and market position.
Required Experience:
- 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience (Labor & Delivery strongly preferred).
- Prior nursing leadership experience required.
Required Education & Licensure
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing, BSN required.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- Effective 4/01/2024:
Upon hire or within 12 months of start date, must complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification.
