Position: ADON - QUALITY CARE- MILLER (FT Days)

Overview

Assistant Director of Nursing–Quality Care assists the Director of Nursing in designing, implementing and evaluating nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of a high standard of quality care and promote a positive patient experience. Serves as role model, team builder, mentor and geriatric nurse specialist. Promotes a positive, calm, effective work environment and facilitates an atmosphere of open communication and problem solving.

Duties
  • Ensures staff has equipment and supplies to perform their responsibilities – storeroom, equipment.
  • Initiates ‘huddle’ for all incidents/accidents and assists with documentation in Verge.
  • Meets with parties and initiates, manages the implementation of process changes needed to resolve patient, family, physician issues/concerns.
  • Documents and reports to DON, administrator.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control – communication and surveillance with infection control practices and implementation, trends in illnesses, exposure with DON and Administrator.
  • Oversight of staff:
    Assures implementation of care plan – restorative – walking, ROM, bathing/linen changes, grooming/hygiene, weights, VS, dining room.
  • Conducts investigation – initiates, documents, administers coaching, oral and written disciplinary action immediately upon discovery.
  • Assists in providing evaluation of staff performance – ongoing and annual review.
  • Provides surveillance to identify hazards and initiates immediate corrective action. Reports to Administrator.
  • Liaison with pharmacy – investigates delays, incomplete scripts, clarification with physicians, etc.
  • Provides oversight/hand‑on assistance with IV administration – starts, IV tubing changes, site observation, dressing changes/documentation, lab draws discontinuation.
  • Observes medication pass – cart and med room checks for outdated meds, pharmacy returns, and narcotic count/destruction accountability.
  • Resource nurse for discharges – documentation complete, take out of Vision.
  • Assists staffing coordinator in determining staffing needs – acuity, placement of patients, IVO resource to staff: orientation – oversight of transition to unit – evaluates and provides orientee with progress reports on performance/competency at touch points during orientation period – assists educator with ‘Just in time’ training of employees in new policies, new equipment, processes.
  • Rounding with Purpose – patient/family – assist in resolving concerns; provide education, care plan conferences liaison, behaviors, restraint compliance.
  • Physician/NP – round with MD/NP, prepare for and make rounds with Dr. Amare monthly.
  • Staff – ensure they have equipment and supplies, JIT educational needs, patient condition changes.
  • Complex Care Team – round/report on progress.
Required Licensure/Education
  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current registration with the Illinois Board of Examiners and the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and Education.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Preferred Education
  • BSN preferred.
Exposure/Sensory Requirements
  • Chemicals:
    Copy machine toner, fax machine toner, household cleaners.
  • Video Display Terminals:
    Extreme.
  • Blood and Body Fluids:
    Some potential due to vomit, coughing, but the use of Universal Precautions and protection reduces risk.
  • TB or Airborne Pathogens:
    Exposure to patients.
