OverviewReporting directly to the Nurse Manager of Nursing Professional Development, the Onboarding Specialist is a highly visible, trusted, collaborative professional nurse responsible for facilitating new graduate nurse orientations from the point of job acceptance to orientation training. The Specialist follows up on orientation, conducting regular, documented rounding, and coordinating focus groups/retention celebrations and onboarding satisfaction surveys. A skilled communicator with strong emotional intelligence, the Specialist is skillful in building and managing relationships in addition to being an effective communicator who drives a focus on accountability and One Riverside.
The Specialist facilitates identification of learning needs and serves as an educational resource and performance consultant for Riverside Medical Center. The Specialist also coordinates and provides mentor/preceptor training and plans and conducts preceptor recognition programs to assure retention of top talent and assuring linkage of all work efforts and outcomes to support Magnet redesignation and ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) global standards.
- Assists with planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of Transition to Practice program including content development, instruction, and coordination with program faculty, modifying and sustaining the program based upon program outcomes.
- Rounds on new nurses, preceptors, and leaders in hospital setting to assure socialization, resiliency, and ongoing progression of patient-centered care, efficiency, prioritization, patient safety and clinical skills.
- Identifies, coaches and collaborates with preceptors, leaders and new nurses on performance gaps to support ongoing retention, engagement and development.
- Coordinates and provides efficient nursing student and nursing college faculty orientation, serving on nursing program advisory groups.
- Harvests feedback from nurse managers and directors to support ongoing development with RN recruitment pipeline staff/programs, supporting Riverside recruitment processes to transition into Riverside positions.
- Coordinates and provides mentor/preceptor training, including overseeing mentor/preceptor recognition programs.
- Facilitates onboarding process that becomes a recruitment and retention driver via publicizing and marketing results to appropriate target audience. Assures structures and processes are in place aligned to ANCC PTAP accreditation.
- In coordination with the ODL team and hospital-based nurse educators and leaders, coordinates standardized onboarding processes from time of job acceptance, tapering support over the first two years of nursing practice.
- Coordinates and assures reporting of onboarding survey data, providing career coaching and connection to professional development internal and external resources to support retention of Riverside nurses who meet and exceed performance expectations.
- Consults to identify learning needs and serves as a facilitator/educational resource on soft skills and clinical skills for new nurses.
- Serves as a resource for ongoing continuing education, ensuring regulatory/accrediting compliance of competency and training records for areas.
- Using contemporary instructional design and presentation techniques and evidence-based resources, determines training needs, and develops methods and training to address needs.
- BSN required
- Current IL RN license
- Minimum of five years of nursing experience in acute care setting with med/surg/critical care preferred
- MSN preferred with nursing professional development/education experience preferred
- Current BLS and ACLS American Heart Association CPR certified instructor preferred
- NPD-BC certification preferred
