Senior Project Engineer III
Under the direction of the Principal Engineer, the Project Engineer III will lead and support the planning, design, and execution of a wide range of civil engineering projects. This role involves managing technical design, coordinating project teams, interfacing with clients and regulatory agencies, and supporting construction administration efforts. The ideal candidate is an experienced civil engineer with strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the planning, design, and permitting of site development, stormwater, and roadway improvement projects
- Prepare and oversee site grading and drainage plans, stormwater detention design and modeling, and flood study models and reports
- Design subdivision layouts, water distribution systems, and sanitary sewer utilities
- Independently produce and review construction plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring effective workload distribution and adherence to project schedules
- Direct and review drawing production by CAD technicians and design engineers
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies to resolve design and construction issues
- Serve as a liaison between municipal clients and internal project teams
- Provide construction administration and project coordination support as required
- Participate in meetings and maintain clear, ongoing written and verbal communication with all stakeholders
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Adaptable, proactive, and collaborative team player
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Active Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Minimum of 10 years of civil engineering experience
- Prior experience managing or mentoring engineering staff preferred
- Experience working with municipal clients and acting as a liaison with public agencies
- Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems independently
