Adult Services Supervisor

The Bourbonnais Public Library District is seeking an innovative, curious, and thoughtful professional to lead our Adult Services Department. This full-time (37.5 hours) position is responsible for the supervision of Adult Services staff, programs, resources, and services.

Pay Range: $49,354-$74,032

Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

• Participate in the hiring and training of department staff.
• Provide direct supervision to department staff, including planning, prioritizing, assigning, and scheduling work, reviewing work, and providing performance feedback.
• Oversee all activities at the Information Desk. When necessary, oversee the Circulation Desk.
• Ensure staff and patrons comply with Library policies and procedures.
• Responsible for drafting and adhering to the department budget, approving expenses, and making purchases.
• Help set the strategic direction of the department, creating and working toward annual goals.
• Provide reference and readers’ advisory services to patrons and staff.
• Monitor and provide technical support for online resources and library technologies.
• Oversee the adult fiction, large print, and library of things collections, ensuring well-maintained and relevant materials are available.
  
  Select and order new library materials. Determine which materials should be weeded from the collection.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate library adult programming and events.
• Participate in department meetings for the coordination of library programs, collections, and services to adults.
• Act as a library ambassador and promote the Library via marketing channels, including but not limited to social and traditional media, library displays, and community engagement.
• Actively participate in management team meetings. Present reports on department activity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, or related field required;
  Master’s Degree in Library Science/Library Information Studies strongly preferred
• Minimum of three years of library experience in an adult services department
• Current knowledge of adult literature, popular culture, media, and educational and technological trends
• Ability to uphold confidential information related to patron records and library matters
• Ability to lead others, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions
• Proficient in the use of standard office technology and equipment
• Ability to work evenings and weekends

Working conditions include:

• Work involves crouching, kneeling, bending, and reaching to access library materials and execute library programs. This position is responsible for lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing book carts that can weigh up to 100 pounds.
• This position may be required to travel within the Chicagoland area to perform outreach activities and attend professional conferences and events.
